With the point of view changing mid-paragraph and some unattributed dialog, I got very confused. There is a town's worth of characters, and I think she was trying to develop them, but I couldn't remember who was who. I am not good at following many characters even when written well.
That said, there was some funny dialog and a caring for the characters. That with the focus on French Canadians, I'll try the next in the series. I'm hoping they improve.
